Two previous plumbers. Two failed jettings. One CCTV inspection revealed the real problem: three joint failures in a 4-metre clay section. Fixed permanently without breaking a single tile.
The Situation
A family in South Lismore had been dealing with a slow-draining toilet and gurgling kitchen sink for three months. Two previous plumbers had jetted the drain and charged call-out fees — both times it blocked again within six weeks. The family was frustrated and starting to worry about excavation costs.
The Challenge
On CCTV inspection we found a 4-metre section of 100mm clay pipe completely infiltrated by camphor laurel roots. The roots had entered through three separate joint failures and caused a hairline crack along the pipe wall. Jetting alone would clear it temporarily, but the structural damage meant roots would return within weeks. The pipe ran under a concrete path — excavation would have meant breaking up approximately 6m² of concrete.
Our Solution
We jetted the section with a chain-flail nozzle to remove the root mass, then installed a 4-metre CIPP (cured-in-place pipe) liner. The liner sealed all three joint entry points and bridged the crack, creating a smooth new bore inside the old pipe.
